Around 150 pigeons allegedly being smuggled for the purpose of espionage has been seized by the Jammu & Kashmir Police on October 16 in Jammu. Authorities have also ordered probe into the issue.

Earlier three persons were apprehended on October 5 at Vikram Chowk in Jammu, as they were found carrying 150 pigeons in Banana Boxes, after which they were booked under the section 144 cruelty to Animals Act and pigeons were handed over to a NGO called SAVE Save Animals Value Environment).

NGO chairman noticed some things to be suspicious about the birds and reported the matter to deputy commissioner Jammu, Who then gave order to probe into the matter.

“These Pigeons had some rings in their claws and special magnetic rings attached to them which raised their suspicions, whether they were being used for the purpose of espionage,” said Namrata Hakhoo from SAVE.
