In partial relief to Navjot Singh Sidhu in the election petition case, the Supreme Court on Wednesday said that he will face trial in Punjab and Haryana High Court on only one charge. Sidhu will face trial for alleged wrongdoings during the 2009 Lok Sabha election, the Supreme Court said.

Sidhu had appealed against the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s decision asking the cricketer-turned-politician to face trial in the case.

Sidhu had won from Amritsar in 2009, and is accused of violating the election expenditure cap of Rs 25 lakhs. He has also been charged with getting 11 officers transferred after the election.
