Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Saturday justified his firing order to the UP Police that claimed the lives of 16 ‘Kar Sevaks’ in Ayodhya in 1990.
The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said that though he regrets giving the firing order in Ayodhya, it was necesary to preserve the unity in the country.
While referring to the firing at Babri Masjid in 1990, Singh said that, “I regret giving orders to shoot Kar Sevaks at Ayodhya in 1991. My decision to order for firing at Kar Sevaks was to save Muslim minorities.”
“If we had not fired at them, imagine what the Muslim population would have thought. Then how would I justify my position as chief minster,” Singh said while adding that he would not have re-considered his decision even if more lives would have been lost to save the religious place.
