Mumbai: Stampede During Naval Exam In Malad, Many Injured

A sudden stampede at INS Hamla, navy’s base in Mumbai, during a naval exam on Friday morning left many injured.

According to reports, overwhelming response at the recruitment rally for Senior Secondary Recruits led to the stampede.

However, aspirants alleged that protest against increased cut off was the reason behind the situation.

While interacting with the media, aspirants alleged “50% was the cut off, when they saw the crowd they made it 60%. When we protested police lathi charge.”

On the other hand, Police officials said “There was no lathi-charge, people got injured because the crowd was massive.”

The situation went out of control after 6,000 candidates showed up at the base, instead of the expected 4,000, and a large crowd tried to rush through the gate all at once.
