A recent poster appeared at the Jawaharlal Nehru University calling for Freedom for Kashmir and Palestine, signed by the Democratic Students Union (DSU). Although the poster was removed by security soon after it was reported, students say that such posters emerge frequently at the start of sessions.
The poster was noticed by students on the wall of the JNU School of Social Sciences’ block who then alerted the administration.
“Freedom for Kashmir! Free Palestine! Right to self-determination long live,” said the poster.
Times of India quoted a student affiliated to a Left group, but not from DSU, as saying “The poster has been there for three-four days. But this is nothing new as such posters from DSU keep emerging at the start of sessions.”
According to a senior JNU official, the putting up of such posters is a pattern at JNU which is aimed at creating ruckus and vitiating the academic environment.
Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya and others involved in the anti-nationalism and sedition charges last year over protests against the hanging of Parliament attack mastermind Afzal Guru were a part of the same group the Democratic Students Union.
