Delhi LG Baijal Rejects Rs 1 Crore Ex Gratia Announced By Kejriwal In OROP Suicide Case
Delhi LG Baijal Rejects Rs 1 Crore Ex Gratia Announced By Kejriwal In OROP Suicide Case

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal famously had many run-ins with former Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and has now run into his first disagreement with new LG Anil Baijal. Kejriwal’s announcement of an ex-gratia of Rs 1 crore to an ex-army man from Haryana who committed suicide in Delhi over OROP was rejected by Baijal.

Baijal, who became LG in December, returned the proposal of awarding the family of 65-year-old Ram Kishan Grewal Rs 1 crore saying that as Grewal is a citizen of Haryana and not Delhi, the Kejriwal government is not authorised to award the family compensation.

Grewal committed suicide on the lawns of a government building in November 2016 by taking poison, alleging that he hadn’t received the promised dues under the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme despite having served the Army for 30 years.

Following the suicide, Delhi CM Kejriwal called Grewal a martyr and promised compensation of Rs 1 crore to his family.
