Mohammad Kaif aka Bunty wanted sharpshooter in the murder case of Bihar journalist, surrendered in Siwan court on Wednesday. Soon after his arrest, Kaif was sent to 14-days judicial custody by the court.
Kaif was spotted with Shahabuddin on September 13. He is one of the accused in the murder of Hindustan daily’s Siwan bureau chief Rajdev Ranjan.
Earlier in May, Bihar police had arrested 5 people in connection to the murder.
Ranjan, who was shot on May 13, had covered crime and court reports relating to jailed RJD leader Mohammed Shahabuddin. Police reports had suggested that Ranjan was shot dead at Phal Mandi near the Siwan station. The station lies barely a half kilometre from the town police station. Ranjan was shot by two bullets, one that hit his forehead and another, that hit his neck.
Earlier this month, Patna High Court had granted bail to Mohammad Shahabuddin in another case of the murder of a witness. The bail was granted by Justice Jitendra Mohan Sharma who presided over the case. The petitioner’s counsel Y V Giri told the court that the allegation against Shahabuddin in the killing of witness Rajiv Roshan was baseless as he was in Bhagalpur jail since 2014, whereas the incident happened the following year.
