The Supreme Court on Thursday questioned Centre on a PIL challenging the Centre’s move to make Aadhar mandatory for all government related schemes.

The apex court asked Centre, “How can u make Aadhar card mandatory when we have passed an order to make it optional?”

The court also asked the Union Government that is making Aadhar mandatory by force the only way to tackle fraud and fake pan card?

To these question centre replied to the Supreme Court saying, “We have legislative backing to make Aadhar mandatory. SC order prohibits only for beneficiary schemes not for services like Aadhar.”

The apex court will hear the matter on Tuesday for final disposal.
