Congress will celebrate former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna’s birth anniversary on April 25 as anti-communalism day, apparently to embarrass his son and former CM Vijay, who has joined hands with the BJP.
Announcing this at a press conference here today, state Congress President Kishore Upadhyay said all district and town presidents of the party have been asked to hold programmes at all district headquarters on April 25 to mark the occasion.
At these programmes, Congressmen will take a pledge to uproot communal forces from the state, he said.
“Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna fought communal forces all his life. He never let them gain strength in undivided Uttar Pradesh,” Upadhyay said.
The move is being seen in political circles here as the party’s attempt to embarrass Hemvati’s son Vijay Bahuguna who was among nine rebel party legislators who aligned with the BJP.
Upadhyay also thanked people for lending their support to the party’s save democracy yatra currently on in different parts of the state, including the constituencies of rebel party MLAs, to “expose” the BJP’s “sinister conspiracy” of “murdering democracy” in Uttarakhand.
