BSF on Friday seized 18 kg of contraband suspected to be heroin worth Rs 90 crore in the international market, which was smuggled from Pakistan, along the International Border in Ferozepur sector of Punjab.
The value of seized drug is Rs 90 crore in the international market, a BSF spokesman said.
At about 0515 hours on Friday, suspicious movement of Pakistani miscreants was observed near International Border (IB) ahead of Border Security Fence in the area of Border out Post (BoP) Karnail Singh Wala in Ferozepur Sector, Border Security Force (BSF) DIG R S Kataria Deputy Inspector General (DIG) said.
A search operation ahead of Border Security fence was carried out by a BSF party and 18 packets (approximately 18 Kgs) of contraband suspected to be heroin, Pakistan made plastic pipe and a pair shoes were recovered in between International Border and Border Security Fence, he said.
Keeping in view the vulnerability of border due to harvesting season and heightened activities of smugglers on border, Anil Paliwal, Inspector General of BSF Punjab Frontier has issued operational guidelines to all the Sectors under Punjab Frontier for further strengthening the border domination so as to effectively check activities of anti-national Elements on Punjab border with Pakistan, the DIG said.
R K Thapa, BSF DIG of Ferozepur sector has directed Field Commanders to maintain extra vigil on border to thwart theattempts of anti-national elements.
Tactical Operations are being mounted to foil the attempts of the smugglers, Kataria said.
