Hours after Patidar reservation stir leader Hardik Patel released a video message mocking the felicitation event of BJP leaders by businessmen led Patidar Abhivadan Samaroh Samiti, a local TV channel turned the world upside down by airing a CCTV footage, showing Hardik’s cousin accepting bribe of Rs 35 lakh from a prominent Surat builder Mukesh Patel, who is a core member of the Abhivadan Samiti.
The CCTV footage, said to be a few months old, appeared in the media a day before the Abhivadan Samiti’s event to felicitate prominent BJP leaders, including party president Amit Shah and Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
Indian Express quotes Mukesh Patel saying, “The footage is from the CCTV installed in my home. Ravi Patel (Hardik’s cousin) had accepted cash Rs 35 lakh, which I had offered to him. We have also paid cash to Anamat Samiti leaders when they had organised Lapsi (a local sweet) programme. I used to accompany Ravi Patel to Surat central jail to work on a compromise formula with Hardik.”
The Rajasthan High Court on Monday reserved its order on a petition filed by Patidar quota stir spearhead Hardik Patel, alleging that he has been kept under house arrest in violation of a court order.
A division bench headed by Justice G K Vyas reserved its order after hearing Additional Advocate General P S Bhati and Hardik’s lawyer Rafeeq Lokhandwala.
