Goa Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), has remanded Raj Kumar Singh, the prime accused in Goa-based perfumer Monika Ghude’s murder, for 7 day police custody after he was produced by the Goa Police in the court, after his arrest in Bangalore.
The accused was arrested by tracing the ATM card of the 39-year-old photographer-turned perfumer Ghurde which was stolen at the time of her murder.
Singh, a resident of Punjab, used to work as a security guard at Sapana Raj Valley, where Ghurde lived, but was fired after he stole Ghurde’s umbrella. According to reports, Singh nursed a grudge against Ghurde for being fired, which may be a motive for murder.
Police suspect that she was raped and murdered somewhere between October 5 afternoon and night, as she had not been in touch with anyone since that time.
An autopsy suggested that Ghurde was suffocated and died from asphyxia due to compression of her neck and mouth. Results for tests to check if she was raped are awaited.
