The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday detained Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani for defying terms of house arrest and leading a protest march towards South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
He was taken to the Humhama Police Station after being detained from outside at his residence at New Airport Road in Srinagar today.
The police also detained separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who in a statement on Sunday said that India shouldn’t blame Pakistan for unrest in Kashmir.
According to reports, all separatist leaders including Geelani, Mirwaiz, Yasin Malik and Shabir Shah have either been placed under house arrest or taken into preventive custody.
Meanwhile, the authorities on Monday said that curfew will remain in Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama districts, while restrictions will continue in parts of Srinagar, Kupwara, Sopore and Baramulla.
