Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday held a meeting with National Conference and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegations while on a two-day visit to the agitated state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Home Minister plans to visit the Anantnag district on Sunday. Following the violence that started on July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was killed, the situation has been continually tensed in the district.
Rajnath Singh also met with Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti Sayeed and the Council of Ministers.
“We gave suggestions to control the situation in Kashmir,” said Omar Abdullah after meeting with the Home Minister.
“We also need to make sure that such kind of situation does not take place again,” Omar added.
This is Rajnath Singh’s second visit to Kashmir during this month. He came here earlier on July 2 when eight CRPF troopers were killed by fidayeen militants in Pampore area of Pulwama district.
The present cycle of violence started on July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was killed along with two of his associates in a gunfight with security forces in Kokernag area of Anantnag district.
