Police arrested a 30-year old man after receiving reports that he thrashed his daughter and choked her with an onion for failing to learn the alphabet, an officer reported in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad on Tuesday.
Investigating officer S.B. Rathore reported that on Saturday night, when Sanjay Kute, the accused returned home, he examined his daughter’s homework.
When the 6-year old, Bharati failed to recite the alphabet, Sanjay thrashed her and attempted to make her swallow an onion as her mother and brother stared in horror. The girl began to choke on the onion and soon, suffocated to death.
Following the murder, Kute moved his daughter’s body to a nearby location so as to hide his crime.
The mother called up her relatives, informing them about the murder and after much contemplation, lodged a complaint with the police.
Kute was arrested on monday night and is to be produced in court on Tuesday, Rathore said.
The child’s body has been recovered and sent for an autopsy.
