Congress leader Anand Sharma in a discussion on Goods and Service Tax (GST) bill in the Rajya Sabha said that the negotiations withe the Congress have only benefited the process of passage of the bill.
“Discussions with Congress have only benefited the process of passage of GST,” Sharma said in a statement today.
“We were not opposing GST on political grounds, we wanted #GST but we wanted our concerns to be addressed,” he said while adding that the party doesn’t want the ‘burden on people of the nation to increase.’
“Indirect tax must go down,” he added.
Talking about acknowledging the efforts of the UPA governement on GST, Sharma said, “Would have been nice if it were acknowledged that UPA Govt’s concerns on GST were meant for good of nation.”
