Congress' UP chief Nirmal Khatri resigns ahead of 2017 assembly polls
Ahead of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections due in 2017, Congress’ Uttar Pradesh chief Nirmal Khatri resigned from his post. Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president Nirman Khatri has sent his resignation to party president Sonia Gandhi. Congress has accepted the resignation of Nirma Khatri, according to sources.

Ahead of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections due in 2017, Congress’ Uttar Pradesh chief Nirmal Khatri resigned from his post. Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president Nirman Khatri has sent his resignation to party president Sonia Gandhi. Congress has accepted the resignation of Nirma Khatri, according to sources.

A former Member of Parliament from Faizabad constituency, Nirmal Khatri, was made Uttar Pradesh Congress chief in October 2012, after the party failed to make a mark in last assembly elections. Khatri may be given other responsibilities in the party and he may continue to play a role in the election process.

Congress’ poll strategist Prashant Kishor has planned to select a Brahmin face for party’s chief post in Uttar Pradesh. Names of former MP Rajesh Mishra and former MLC Rajesh Pati Tripathi are doing rounds for the UPCC chief post. Congress is also considering the name of former MP Rajaram Pal (OBC) and P L Punia (Dalit) for the same.
