Polling percentage of 13.5 percent was recorded in Kerala till 9:30 am, while Tamil Nadu recorded a polling percentage of 18.3 till 9 am.
Polling began in the three southern states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry on Monday morning after intensive campaigning amid the heated summer weather.
In Tamil Nadu, polling will be held in 232 out of 234 constituencies. Nearly 5.82 crore voters will exercise their franchise to decide the fate of 3,776 candidates including 320 women. Voting in Thanjavur and Aravakurichi constituencies will be held on May 23.
In Kerala, a total of 2.60 crore voters will decide the fate of 1,203 contestants including 109 women. The election comission has deployed 52,000 personnel from the Kerala Police besides around 100 companies of central forces, 2,000 officials from the excise department and another 2,027 home guards is responsible to ensure hassel free polling.
Meanwhile in Puducherry, over 9.4 lakh voters are expected to exercise their democratic right of voting to decide the fate of a total of 344 candidates.
