The Rajya Sabha will, on Friday, see 53 member retiring. This is one of the biggest in recent times. With 65 seats, Congress will be the biggest loser as its 16 members will retire and chances of only a few of them will return to the House.
The retirement list includes some big names of which some may come back, some won’t. Venkaiah Naidu, Piyush Goyal, Nirmala Sitaraman, YS Choudhry and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi are
five ministers who are all set to retire.
Venkaiah Naidu holds the key portfolio and it is important to bring him back to Parliament. He was elected from Karnataka last time, but with liquor baron Vijay Mallya resigning, there is a vacancy.
The Congress is likely to draw a blank from AP or Telangana. Since the party is in power in here, Jairam Ramesh, who is currently representing AP, is likely to make it from Karnataka. P Chidambaram is another aspirant from Karnataka. However, other veterans like Hanumantha Rao and JD Seelam may not be so lucky.
